Welcome!

The overarching objective of the Severe Storms Research Group (SSRG) at the University of Nebraska (Lincoln) is to answer fundamental questions related to mesoscale phenomena, specifically those related to severe local storms. Led by Dr. Adam Houston, members of the Severe Storms Research Group are undertaking research projects dealing with the initiation, strength, lightning characteristics, and climatologies of thunderstorms. Data used by the group include output from numerical models and model reanalysis from the North American Regional Reanalysis (NARR), volumetric observations from National Weather Service radars, lightning information from the National Lightning Detection Network (NLDN), groundwater flow measurements, and meteorological measurements collected by unmanned aircraft.
